Blitz Gets a Response from Our Friendly Veteran

Mr. Melvin C. Bashner of El Paso, Texas wrote Blitz a wonderful letter about how he was familiar with Blitz products during World War II (You may have read the previous article, which can be seen here).  Blitz responded to his letter by sending him the Original Blitz Cloth.  Mr. Bashner has sent us a thank you letter and it is our pleasure to share it with you!

"11.11.11" A Blitz Remembrance of Our Veterans

A recent letter to Blitz from Mr. Melvin C. Bashner of El Paso, Texas, is only one of many letters we receive from America's heroes, our Veterans.  As many do in their letters, he recalled our 'Blitz cloth'.  He wrote, in part, "... As a World War II - U.S. Marine --- the Blitz cloth - was a must for ... brass!"  Mr. Bashner has been featured in the 12 May 1995 China Daily reminiscing about the horrors and history of the Asian aspect of World War II, and concluded in his memory, "... we cannot relax our vigilance, or we pay these same high prices we paid ... years ago."

We at Blitz respect the history of our Veterans, and recognize that a great part of the Blitz past was directly tied to the everyday G.I. Joe and those soldiers who fought and paid the ultimate price to give us the freedom we cherish today.  On 11 November let us remember Veterans.  On 7 December remember the attack of Pearl Harbor in 1941.  On 11 September remember the modern day patriots and first-responders who were called upon by fate to help their neighbors in the 2001 attack.  And let everyday be a day of remembrance and thanksgiving for other every-day individuals whether they work tirelessly at homeless shelters, help the sick to recover, or give hospice aid and comfort and dignity.

_____

And, yes - as we responded to Mr. Bashner's request - Blitz still makes the Blitz cloth with the same 1912 formulation.  If you cannot find it locally - we still offer it on our website.  Just click the icon below to find it, or click here.

Statement Jewelry

Whether you want to impress a prospective client, wow your date, or just act like an Egyptian today's fashion summons statement jewelry. In ancient times, Egyptian queens wore large necklaces, and Roman women wore elaborate rings.   In the 1920's, Coco Channel created a fashion buzz by creating large pieces for Hollywood stars.  From Theda Bara to Ginger Rogers to the incomparable Audrey Hepburn, statement jewelry defined glamorous moments of the 20-th century.

This type of jewelry cam be very difficult to clean if makeup or other material gets on it.  It may be made of a variety of materials:  A mixture of precious and base metals, pearls, gems, beads, wood, mother-of-pearl, or ivory.

Blitz offers several choices to assist.

For metals, we suggest starting with a clean cloth and fashion Foamz™ item # 663.  It is not recommended for un-coated wood, paper, papier-mache, or items that if wet will swell, dissolve, or erode.  Otherwise, foam on, and wipe off.  The foam gets in the smallest crevices, but will not affect plated metals.

Blitz also has a full line of ready-to-use treated cloths made of suede-soft microfiber.

Blitz Cloth: Lasts Forever?

From time to time Blitz receives emails and letters about our historic Blitz cloth.  Some ask us what it looked like (there were many versions), others show us their cloths that they find at antique malls or other places.  Apparently they are collectible by those interested in Americana and all things WWII.

Sadly, Blitz does not use this design any longer though from time to time we bring out commemorative editions, such as our 90th Anniversary Tin.

Blitz does still make the item # 105 cloth.

A rare find - one of the best preserved Blitz has ever seen - comes from "LJ" (21 June 2011) who cleaned out a storage shed and found one of the Blitz classic cloths.  Our sincere gratitude to "LJ" who allowed us to use the images below.

Blitz History

Blitz Manufacturing Company, Inc.
Since 1912,

For 100 years, the Blitz Manufacturing Company, Inc. has manufactured environmentally safe, non-toxic metal and jewelry polishes, jewelry cleaners, polishing cloths and jewelry accessories.

Blitz Manufacturing is a well established, growing international company with an excellent management team, diverse markets, entrenched core products, numerous high profile commercial accounts, and Blitz is well staged to grow tremendously over the next several years, as our product quality and trusted safety is on demand world wide.

In 1912, Auburn Specialties Company was established in Auburn, New York, where the original "Blitz Cloth" was developed. In that year, the word "Blitz" was trademarked as it applies to jewelry polishing cloths and liquid polishes.

Over the years the company grew and developed the United States Military into one of its primary customers. The product known as the "Blitz cloth" to millions of servicemen is now part of a display in the Smithsonian Institute of World War II military life.

Item #19 is the classic WWII "Blitz Cloth".

Since March 1985, a manufacturing facility was established in Jeffersonville, Indiana to facilitate world wide distribution.

This facility currently occupies over 40,000 square feet in the America Place Industrial Park in Clark County and Blitz is one of the two longest, continuous operating occupants. The historic America Place Industrial Park itself dates back to the Civil War era with expansions during WWI and WWII.  After the 1970's, it became privatized.

The Company's key strengths to successful consumer products manufacturing are an excellent management structure, a cross-trained work force which enables Blitz to tailor individual programs and ideas that serve all of its customers' needs quickly and efficiently.

Yes, Blitz still manufactures its jewelry cleaner and jewelry polishing cloths in THE UNITED STATES! While Blitz' partnerships extend across the world, Blitz is proud to have employees manufacture in the Heartland of America: Southern Indiana.  Our cotton flannel is still spun and woven in the USA.

Blitz currently has suplied products to over 50% of the $100 million super sellers (top US retailers and department stores with annual Sales in excess of $100 million), over 50% of the top 40 retail jewelry chains in the US, all of the major TV shopping Channels, a majority of music manufacturers, wholesalers.

Blitz supplies many of the most prestigious & prominent e-commerce retailers worldwide.

Blitz products consist of non-toxic and environmentally safe ingredients. The Blitz family of products are NEVER tested on animals.
