The First Lady of the United States made headlines again this week after her grand entrance wearing a custom designed dress by designer, Jason Wu at the Inaugural Ball. Although we loved the dress, we were more interested in the fabulous Kimberly McDonald bangle bracelets and handmade ring. McDonald’s designs, which can go for $15,000 a pop made their way to the very top tier of the United States government as Michelle Obama sported diamond bangles in 18-karat oxidized gold.

Blitz has been in business for over 100 years and has seen jewelry made from unconventional materials including paper, nuts, plastic and now illegal guns. Jewelry designer Jessica P. Mindich is making a big bang with her custom designed bangle bracelets made out of weapons seized by Newark, NJ police. As more people begin to focus on ways to keep dangerous weapons off of the streets, many welcome the idea of the Caliber Collection and are even asking for new designs including cuff-links and earrings. Proceeds from the Caliber Collection go to the Newark gun buy-back program meant to provide money to residents who turn in their illegal weapons.
